Colin Cloud strolls confidently on stage and announces that he already knows what we’re thinking. It’s easy to believe him; he’s every inch the Forensic Mind Reader inspired, as he claims to be, by the greatest forensic detective, Sherlock Holmes. Cloud presents an eclectic image of classic tweed jacket with tight jeans, topped off with spiky hair and trimmed beard. He’s instantly likeable and constantly peppers his act with funny asides and observations.
Cloud is a fantastic showman and keeps things moving swiftly. He has an easy rapport with the audience and openly embraces any skepticism whilst setting up scenarios that pay off way down the line all the while making it clear that his abilities are based on careful observation and a close study of human behavior rather than any supernatural power. However, one self-proclaimed skeptic in the audience was rendered speechless by Cloud’s ability to read his thoughts.
Mind reading acts are often repetitive and sometimes even obvious. They rely entirely on the interaction with the audience and their willingness to share in the act. Colin Cloud had us all on side from the first moment, gladly offering ourselves to be subjects of his forensic examination. This show was filled with constant gasps and murmurs of disbelief that grew into genuine squeals of delight and astonishment when he made his final, incredible revelation.
Colin Cloud knows where you’re from, what you’re thinking and how much money you have in your wallet. If he ever decides to use his powers for evil; we’re all in trouble. Derren Brown better watch his back.
