Compére Without Compare

Hosting a live show is more than just reading out the names of the acts; a good compere is a master of ceremonies whilst also being a stand-up comedian, an improvisor, a cheerleader, and an advocate for both the audience and the performers.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Described by Time Out London as “The Godfather of Scottish cabaret”, Rufus Allan is an actor, cabaret performer, and compère who has been privileged to perform in the West End of London as well as in touring musicals and pantomime, and on cruise ships for P&O. He has worked summer seasons in the UK and Spain, and hosted and appeared in shows in the US and Australia. He's also an experienced circus Ringmaster having hosted spectaculars in big tops across the world.

Over the past 20 years, Rufus has hosted everything from intimate cabarets and parties to theatrical variety shows, nightclubs, comedy clubs, awards ceremonies, charity spectaculars, and corporate events. Rufus was the resident host of The Gatsby Speakeasy, Vaudevillesque, Dr Sketchy Glasgow, The Variety Show, and The Art Club Cabaret.
